Travel to Bern

Information on getting to Bern from the Tourism Office

By plane

Switzerland’s main airports are at Basel (1h20), Zurich Kloten (1h15), Geneva (2h) and Bern Belp (30-40 min.). These approximate travelling times are for public transport connections from the main airport terminal to Bern’s main railway station.

By train

The Swiss railway network is legendarily punctual and well-organized. We recommend that you arrive in Bern by train if you can. Bern is two hours from Geneva and one hour from Zurich or Basel. SBB Timetable, please click here

From Bern’s main station, on foot

Exit the station in the direction on “Schanzenstrasse” – ascend the escalators/lift to the walkway above the railway tracks, beneath the large, curved wooden roof. The UniS building is on Schanzeneckstrasse, to the left of the main road up the hill. The entrance is no more than two minutes away from the station exit (by pedestrian access).

By car

Follow the signs to Bern city centre and main train station. The main parking garages are signposted from most motorway exits, with the number of free spaces kept up-to-date. The closest parking garages are at Bahnhofparking (the main train station) and City West. Be aware that the daily car parking charges are high: for example, a fourteen-hour stay at Bahnhofparking will cost nearly Fr. 40.
